About the Candidate

Bernie Sanders is the junior (yes, junior!) Senator from Vermont, and was elected to the Senate in 2007. Sanders previously served in the House of Representatives for Vermont's at-large congressional district from 1991 to 2007, and was mayor of Burlington, Vermont from 1981 to 1989. He ran for President back in 2016 and a bird landed on his podium that one time, which was nice. Learn more about Bernie below:

Q & A with Bernie

  • What’s the reason you're running for president in six words?

We need a political revolution now.

  • What is the first piece of legislation you want to sign into law, and how will you get it through a GOP-led Senate if Democrats aren’t in charge?

We have many crises facing our country, from health care to our climate crisis to education to income inequality. Bernie believes we must be able to “walk and chew bubblegum” at the same time in combating them.

  • If elected, what is the first executive action you’ll take?

Bernie has pledged to undo every single thing that Donald Trump has done to demonize and harm immigrants on day one of his presidency. That will start with immediately reinstating the DACA program for the 1.8 million young undocumented immigrants currently eligible for the program.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Bernie is very proud to have led the effort in the Senate to successfully demand that Amazon and Disney raise the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour—a grassroots effort that substantially raised the wages of 410,000 workers.

  • Do you have a pet? If so, picture please. If not, are you ok?

  • When you’re not discussing all the reasons you will be a great president, what TV show are you insisting all of your friends watch immediately?

  • If you could tell your 14-year-old self one thing, what would it be?

As the senator said to The New York Times, he doesn't tolerate "bullshit" very well, so we will not be answering the above questions. We hope our friends at Vote Save America understand.
